00The Linear Habits Method

Awareness.
Recognition.
Interruption.
Choice.

Linear Habits is not about eliminating every pattern. It is about noticing patterns clearly enough to decide whether to continue them.

AWARENESS

Notice what is happening.

Before anything can change, it has to be seen. Awareness is not an insight and not a judgment. It is the plain registration of what is actually occurring: the thought, the tightening, the sentence already forming.

RECOGNITION

Identify the pattern beneath the reaction.

The reaction is new. The pattern is not. Recognition is the moment you stop asking why is this happening and start asking why is this happening again. Familiarity is the clue.

INTERRUPTION

Create space between impulse and response.

Not suppression. Not control. A pause — sometimes no longer than a breath — inserted into a sequence that has never had one. The interruption is small. Its consequences are not.

CHOICE

Decide what happens next.

A response that has been seen, named, and paused can finally be chosen. Sometimes the choice repeats the pattern — consciously, for now. Sometimes it does not. Either way, it is yours.

A pattern can repeat without being a decision. The method exists to make sure the decision catches up.

A quieter way to notice what repeats.

Occasional reflections on patterns, reactions, boundaries and conscious choice. Nothing more frequent than it needs to be.
